Direct the Postmaster General to offer basic banking services.

Created by T.K. on January 30, 2014

In order to help provide access to the 68 million Americans with little or no access to basic banking services, such as savings accounts and small loans, the Postal Service could offer these services. These people are currently forced to rely on predatory businesses, and paid over $89 billion in fees and interest in 2012. Access to these basic services could help to finance small business ventures. 59% of all post offices are located in areas lacking in these services. The postal service would be able to provide these services at a much lower rate, while still gaining the revenue needed to keep it from bankruptcy.
