Direct the Secretary of Education to allocate resources toward ending the misuse of “sherbert” in place of “sherbet”

In a troubled education system, there is no room for more errors. Even small ones can plague generations, as we have all seen with the word “sherbet.” For far too long now, rampant misspelling and mispronunciation of this humble frozen dessert has been found in “sherbert,” pronounced ʃərbərt in IPA, erroneously degrading the treat's nearly 2,000 year old legacy. It is time to put an end to this madness. Therefore, we petition the Obama Administration to make it a priority in 2014 to shift the education agenda toward this issue. We would like to the president to instruct Arne Duncan, Secretary of Education, to dedicate whatever resources are necessary to enable the Department of Education to bring an end to this madness.
