Direct the Secretary of State to request the Peoples' Republic of China to stop the illegal trade in ivory immediately.

Created by G.K. on July 10, 2014

Demand for illegal ivory primarily from the Peoples' Republic of China is potentially driving the African Elephant to extinction in much of Africa. The African Elephant is a special animal, and exhibits elements of culture and language, and deserves special protection also because it represents an important aspect of human cultural heritage. Efforts to directly stem elephant poaching have met limited success, which is why it is essential to make strong efforts to reduce demand. Most African elephant ivory ends up as jewelry in China. So, a solution to reduce demand can only involve the PRC government. So, please sign this petition so that the United States will constructively and positively engage the PRC on this issue.
