Direct some of the money from our military budget towards the Coast Guard to prepare against future oil spills.

Created by E.M. on January 12, 2013

We currently spend more money on defense than the next 13 countries combined to defend against foreign enemies.

Given the great amount of damage that was done to our coastal states by the Deepwater Horizon spill, the failures in Shell's tests with Arctic drilling, and the number of spills in coastal waters around the world, future oil spills should be viewed as at least as much of a threat to the country as an current potential invader.

Please investigate the possibility of directing some resources in the military budget to the Coast Guard or Navy to build the equipment and expertise to provide rapid and effective solutions to future spills.
