Nearly 95% of the world uses metric units, which are the basis for high technology. Staying in the minority drags down our economy. It is best to retool when the shop is between cycles, using the most modern advances, such as metric units. Most goods are already labeled in metric units. For 50 years, English-speaking cooks have used metric unit recipes. Instruction using metric units improves technical literacy; adoption now will lead to future American innovation. A concerted infrastructure program to put America to work can also build a critical mass of understanding by people and businesses of metric units. Thus, we petition the White House to proclaim that the United States will adopt metric units for all official business, and to encourage its comprehensive use throughout the country.
