Captain William Swenson was in command of the unit U.S. Marine Medal of Honor winner Dakota Meyer was assigned to on Sept. 8, 2009, when the Army captain and other U.S. forces were ambushed in Kunar province, Afghanistan, while serving as advisers to Afghan forces there. The six-hour battle in the village of Ganjgal killed five U.S. troops, and launched a national outcry about why they were repeatedly denied air and artillery support by Army officers on a nearby base.
Captain Swenson was nominated for the Medal of Honor by a Marine General. His nomination was "Lost", and has been buried in back channels at the U.S. Army for 4 years. President Obama, as the Commander in Chief of the U.S. Military, should direct the Army to approve and forward the Citation to congress within 3 days.
