The US government no longer should manufacture and circulate the one cent piece . Due to inflation over the last 200 years, the penny now has insignificant value. It costs over 2.5 cents to just produce each penny. The cost of storage, sorting and transporting this coin just adds to the waste of having this coin in circulation.
Congress should introduce and pass legislation to round all transaction final costs to the nearest nickel. Cost savings of this initiative would be in the millions each year and the elimination of this nuisance coin would be appreciated by all americans.
