Humans didn't invent life, genes, or DNA, but that's not what the patent office is upholding. By allowing life to be patented, research on diseases has been halted, farmers have been bankrupted, and biological diversity has been thwarted by companies holding the patents to plants, animals, and genes. Farmers who save and distribute their seeds are now targets for these corporate patent holders because their crops often become contaminated--by man or nature, against the will of the farmer--by these patented genes. Researchers are being shut down because they don't have the patent on the disease they're researching. Diversity of life, especially edible crops, has had a major loss because so few companies hold so many patents and they can pick and choose what seeds to sell. End the lunacy.
