Political organizations are able to gain 501(c)(3) tax exempt status through a loophole that describes the "majority" of work done by the organization. This is a recent change as historically any organization that received 501(c)(3) tax exempt status was not allowed to engage in any sort of political activity. The rule should be changed back to how it has always been historically to prevent gross abuse from purely political organizations, illegal non-disclosure of political donations, and other assorted practices.
