New rules allow the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to deny an airline passenger's ability to 'opt-out' of screening with full-body scanners and instead receive a pat-down. Even though the new generation of full body scanners rely on millimeter wave technology (different from X-ray) which is claimed to be harmless, there is still dispute over whether or not this technology can cause DNA damage, and both safety and privacy concerns remain. These technologies expose passengers to as yet unknown risks, and it is unethical to force passengers to comply. Further, while not every passenger may be denied the 'pat-down', reasons for denial are currently vague enough to be applied to anyone, for any reason, and without explanation. This needs to be corrected!
