Disarm all low-ranking, street-level police officers allowing only tasers, batons, and other non-lethal alternatives.

The recent uptick in officers committing murder under the color of authority is appalling. Most are committed by lower ranking, street officers who are unfamiliar with the ability and effectiveness of non-lethal alternatives. Bean-bag guns, rubber bullets, tasers, and other non-lethal alternatives are just as effective at stopping violent offenders without loss of life. Taking a life should be a last-minute alternative after all other means have been exhausted. An officer should only fire when fired upon. These firearms should only be carried by ranking supervisors or SWAT-type units. Disarming lower-level, less trained officers will drastically cut down on the loss of life which is plaguing our nation. WE THE PEOPLE demand the disarmament of lesser trained, low-ranking police officers.
