After recent police shootings, and over 1,000 citizens killed last year, it is clear having armed police officers must be addressed. I propose disarming the police. Allow Police Officers to serve society with power to stop, search and arrest citizens, and have them teamed with Tactical Officers that observe and protect the citizen and officer but do NOT have power to stop, search or arrest. By separating duties the Tactical Officer can focus on securing the encounter and take a less emotional response to whatever occurs while the Police Officer can focus on interviewing the citizen and ascertaining the legal situation. I believe disarming Police Officers will create a more positive experience within communities and better, more skilled, policing.
