In the 2000 Bush v. Gore decision, five justices declared, “The individual citizen has no federal constitutional right to vote for electors for the President of the United States unless and until the state legislature chooses a statewide election as the means to implement its power to appoint members of the Electoral College.”
Rutherford B. Hayes lost by 264,292 votes to Samuel J. Tilden in 1876
Benjamin Harrison lost by 95,713 votes to Grover Cleveland in 1888
George W. Bush lost by 543,816 votes to Al Gore in the 2000 election.
All 4 of these past Presidents LOST the popular vote and were still elected to run our country by the Electoral College. What happened to Democracy being ruled by the majority of citizens?
