The American political system is broke, it was broken the moment it came to be. While many point to lobbyists and corruption of individual politicians, the bigger problem is that these corrupt politicians are apart of political groups built on corruption.
George Washington warned of the party system in his Farewell address.
He denounced the party system as " potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion."
As we now see, Washington proved a prophet. The political parties have worked avidly to destroy our democracy weather it be in the name of liberalism or conservatism.
