The electoral college effectively removes 42 states from participating in a Presidential election.
It also effectively removes any third party candidate from ever mounting a legitimate campaign for president – especially following Citizens v. United.
While most of our electoral issues come from gerrymandering that allows over half of our Congress to represent less than a fifth of our country's beliefs, eliminating the Electoral College is the only way to ensure that the 2016, 2020, 2024, and 2028 Presidential elections aren't exclusively focused on the same 8 states that the 2012 election was exclusively focused on.
If 8 states are all that matters for the next twenty years, shouldn't the other 42 states be allowed to elect their own, different President?
