I am fully aware that the U.S. constitution in its current state describes the presidential elections just as they are to this day and thus the system is, technically speaking, constitutional.
On the other hand, we Americans pride ourselves on being a flagship for global democracy, glad for any chance to prove that our liberty is intact and as great as it has ever been.
So why are the presidential elections indirect? Why does the candidate chosen by the people not win by design? Why is the leader of our nation chosen by only 538 Americans?

democracy - gr. 'demokratia' - rule of the people
