Although there is a need for FEMA and Homeland Security withing the services, the USAF has created a bogus career field and keep adding more into it to save it from "dying out".
Throughout the service, all the needs and jobs that USAF EM provides, is provided elsewhere. Having this career field is wasting money that can be put into the other career fields that are already doing the job. Do not duplicate work just to save the career field. Fire Dept can do Hazmat Response, BIO Engineering can do Hazmat Response and Crime Scene Investigation, Security Forces can do homeland security as well as EOD, and wing IG office can take care of all the plans that are needed to execute the mission. Also, CES has the manpower already withing the squadron to run deployment operations.
