I have been on SSDI for over 20 years now and I want my federal student loans discharged. I have to fill out hardship papers to the Department of Education every year. By policy only people who cannot ever possibly work an hour in their life qualify to get their loans discharged. Thus even people paralyzed from the neck down cannot get their loans forgiven or discharged in bankruptcy.
When I took out the loans you could declare bankruptcy on them but I did not as I wanted to try and pay them off. Ten years later you could still declare bankruptcy on them too but a law passed making that illegal. Then the possibility of repayment disappeared and bankruptcy was not allowed. Now the debt grows bigger every day from interest charges.
Discharge student loans for the disabled.
