The US half penny was minted first in 1793 and minted until 1857. The US mint discontinued the half penny because it was the smart thing to do. Now the penny is no longer relevant yet is still being made. Whats worse is the nickel is costing us even more than the penny! This petition has been created to not only discontinue both the penny and the nickel but to let the government know that we are tired of watching Washington waste our tax dollars.
