Discontinue from celebrating Columbus Day.

Created by C.S. on October 12, 2015

We know today that the Crown of Castile funded the voyage of Christopher Columbus in 1492 and through the early 1500's colonized the Caribbean and Central and South America. Following the murders of several church members in South Carolina in June of 2015, there was much
outrage because the Confederate Flag continued to fly in the face of the children and grandchildren of slaves. The same can be said about my Caribbean, Central and South American friends. Spain, as a result of Columbus' voyage, began the genocide and murder of millions across the Western Hemisphere. We too continue to have a disrespectful sign waived in our faces as this country continues to celebrate Columbus as if he were a national hero. I respectfully request for the renaming of Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day.
