By celebrating Columbus Day, the United States of America is promoting a false history that continues to misinform every American. Basic facts are left out, namely that he did not prove the Earth was round, nor did he discover America.
However, the issue with celebration of Columbus is the tribute we pay to a truly evil human being. Columbus was responsible for the mass murder, rape, and subjugation of millions of indigenous people he "discovered". His actions had far reaching consequences that affected everything from the ecology of the land to the African slave trade. His atrocities are borne out by eyewitness accounts, written records, and by Columbus himself, who was proud of the slaughter he inflicted.
Please remove this holiday in celebration of murder, slavery, and rape.
