When Israel declared independence in 1948, our government recognized it as a sovereign nation within 24 hours. Despite living on the land for nearly 2,000 years, and begging for Palestine to be recognized by the U.N. for decades, not only have the Paelstinians been denied, but they have seen about 85% of their land taken by Israel. Peace in the region, human rights for all, and meaningful progress in the war on terror cannot be achieved so long as the United States continues to fund the military of an apartheid nation.
