Discontinue hypocrisy and place Alcohol and Tobacco into Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act

Created by L.H. on November 12, 2012

Since the enactment of the Controlled Substances Act, many items have been deemed harmful to the population at large. One of these items is marijuana.

There is a clear hypocrisy in allowing alcohol and tobacco, both of which cause dependency, both of which have harmful long-term effects, alcohol provides harm in the short-term due to impairment of physical and mental abilities, nearly 75,000 people die yearly from alcohol related problems, nearly 400,000 people die yearly from tobacco use.

This petition is to request that alcohol and tobacco get added to schedule 1, or marijuana gets removed, as it has a far less deleterious effect on its users and the populace as a whole.
