Air Force Instruction 36-2903 Paragraph 1.2.13 mandates "Authorized headgear will be worn while outdoors unless in an area designated as a no hat area by the installation commander or equivalent".
Other than tradition, hats serve no purpose and should be discontinued in the military uniform.
Recommend removal of the policy to mandate the use of hats (in uniform) outdoors.
