Discontinue pennies, nickels and paper dollars

Created by D.K. on January 04, 2013

1) Discontinue pennies and nickels. Prices for goods and services can still be stated in cents, just as they always have, but the actual payment price will be rounded to the nearest .10. Logically assuming that half the time the price will be rounded up and half the time it will be rounded down, it will all balance out for each individual. 2) Do away with paper dollars. Just do it. Force people to change. But mint a usuable coin: one with a gold-colored outer ring and a silver-colored core, like the Brazilian real or the 1/2 euro coin, so there's no mistaking what it is. 3) replace copper-clad dimes and quarters with steel ones, like the pennies used in 1943. These measures will not only save millions in minting costs, but will save copper for industrial uses.
