This petition is to urge the Obama administration to work with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, U.S. Mint, and Congress to stop producing the outdated penny and nickel, which is costing Americans more money to make than they are actually worth; even if using "cheaper" metals.
While it should remain legal tender, the government can cut waste by stopping production of coins that no longer have a relevance in modern society and eventually they will phase themselves out.
