Beyonce recently announced a $50 million partnership with Pepsi, which includes her image on their cans and advertisements. By inviting her to perform the Star Spangled Banner at the President's Inauguration, the White House is endorsing the sugary drink Pepsi at a time when America's childhood obesity and diabetes rates are skyrocketing.
According to CSPI, each additional sugary drink consumed per day increases the likelihood of a child becoming obese by 60 percent. Drinking one or two sugary drinks per day increases one's risk for type 2 diabetes by 25 percent.
We ask The White House, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to take a stand for our children and for our health by replacing Beyonce with another singer whose image is not synonymous with soda.
