The U.S. Drone Program began as a low-intensity adjunct in conducting the War on Terror. It has now become a primary tool, with terrifying consequences: disrespect for sovereign borders, murder of innocent civilians, assassination of American citizens, bolstering the global-scale expansion of similar drone programs in countries that already have atrocious human rights records. The road to hell is paved with good intentions: the continued existence of this program does not bode well for individual liberty here in the U.S. or abroad. There is no way to ensure American citizens that we are safe from foreign drone strikes/surveillance within the U.S. when our own government operates an illegal, unconstitutional, unaccountable and cowardly drone program of its own.
