Hardworking dad could be deported because he smoked pot in 1996

Alex Timofeev is well known in Madison, Wis., as a country club chef and loving dad to two daughters. He immigrated to the United States in 1992, leaving the Soviet Union with his mother. But the 35-year-old now faces deportation because he was charged with marijuana possession as a 19-year-old. Timofeev was arrested by Immigration & Customs Enforcement agents and held in a detention center for four months; now free, he can't work, pay his bills or — for the first time ever — make his child support payments. Timofeev's life is essentially on hold while he waits to learn if he'll be sent back to Russia. "I have nothing there," he says. "If they send me away, I can never come back."
