The bipartisan system causes citizens to pick a candidate, out of the lesser of two evils. This problem originates from a misunderstanding of the Vote. The purpose of a vote is to express one's opinion on how the community should be governed. Without a party system one's choice in candidate truly reflects the ideals the voter wants in government, but in a party system the voter has to compromise in order for the voter to feel like their vote "matters". This causes the government to misunderstand the governed. Also the founding fathers warned against a bipartisan system, John Adams said, "There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties...In my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.
