Ohio has the right to seek redress for grievance from the Federal Government, as well as an obligation to her citizens to pursue less extreme paths for reparation before commiting to secession, and has not.
Further, the U.S. Constitution, which creates the Union, is a compact between the people of the nation; the Executive Branch does not have the authority to grant secession.
More importantly, we, the people, are the government; any among us that disagree with our course may take up the same tools - due process and the ballot - we used to chart it. While this may make for slow progress, it is, at least, steady and true.
Thus we ask that you disregard petitions asking that Ohio be allowed to withdraw from the United States of America.
