The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a drain on the budget. Since its inception during the George W. Bush administration, it has done nothing but violate American citizen's rights and liberties. On those same lines, abolish the unconstitutional Patriot Act and repeal and rewrite the National Defense Authorization Act.
Utilize the Department of Defense (DoD) for what it was intended for: the defense and security of the country. This can be accomplished by shutting down bases located overseas and bringing those troops and support equipment back to the United States. All that is required is an Area of Responsibility (AOR) staging area in each major theater.
These two steps would be a step in the right direction towards reducing spending and a step towards reducing our deficit.
