Divert current agricultural subsidies given to corn and soybeans to all other gluten free grains.

Created by J.L. on April 11, 2013

Agricultural subsidy overhall - divert funds from corn and soy to gluten-free grains and alternative grains such as Amaranth, Millet, Quinoa, Teff, Sorghum, etc., and to cover the costs of diagnosing Celiac's disease.

Three Reasons:

Healthcare: Celiac's disease is under-diagnosed. Celiac's causes a wide-range of symptoms, people aren't always tested for Celiac's. Properly diagnosing people would lead to decreased healthcare costs. Necessary diet changes are costly, subsidies would make access to gluten-free grains affordable.

Agriculture: Corn/Soy subsidies narrow and exclude farmers of other important grains.

Environment: Currenty subsidies discourage crop rotation, which is one of the leading causes of soil degredation leading to increased use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
