If we focused on heavy equipment that could withstand large blazes we could save the lives of firefighters by using them to cut firebreaks. They could also be made to house firefighters in case of wind-shifts etc. Instead of all energy being focused on killing more precisely, focus some on saving life and property more expertly.
The weather will continue to get worse. Using outdated, dangerous air-tanker technology is insufficient. We should invest research in protecting vulnerable towns and cities.
