When the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Citizens United in 2010, it opened the floodgates for corporations and other groups with vast economic resources, both within and outside of the United States, to inundate our politics, spending enormous and unlimited sums of money on political campaigns. Not only was this a case of judicial overreach, it defied judicial precedent and the results will further dwarf the ability of individual citizens to have a voice in their government. President Obama condemned this decision several times, but now we must ask him to go farther and use whatever means are at his disposal to challenge, rein in, and mitigate the effects of this decision. With the exception of jobs, no other issue is as pressing for the future of this country.
