Having a consumption tax would allow for the collecting of taxes regardless of the source of the income. Currently "under-the-table employment", prostitution, drug sales, etc. are not paying taxes. This would allow taxes to be collected when the cars, bling, boats, homes, etc. are purchased, regardless of how the money was obtained. This would also reduced the expense of collecting taxes, processing returns, enforcement costs, etc.
