The electoral college is an outdated institution no longer needed in this country. It was created when resources to inform voters on the candidates was not as abundant as today. Today, the winner of the popular vote can lose the presidential election, undermining the basic principle of democracy.
Additionally, the electoral college causes certain states and citizen's votes to be more valuable than other citizens. One citizen should be just as important as every other citizen, as democracy strives to ensure.
It is time we let the electoral college dissolve. It is no longer needed, and is detrimental to democracy as it should be.
