Do Away with the Electoral College for Presidential Elections and Replace it With the Popular Vote

Created by R.T. on November 12, 2012

The purpose of Electoral College in the Presidential election no longer serves the purpose of its original intent. From Hamilton in the Federalist Papers "the immediate election should be made by men most capable of analyzing the qualities adapted to the station, and acting under circumstances favorable to deliberation, and to a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice." The Electoral College was set up as a buffer between the electorate and the election of a President based on what now are outdated circumstances. Today, this system gives small states an inordinate amount of leverage in an election resulting in electoral vote not representing the popular vote. We the People do not need an electoral college to buffer our decisions!
