The Iranian government has imprisoned U.S. Citizen Saeed Abedini for peacefully practicing his Christian faith. Sentenced to eight years in prison, Saeed is promised release only on the condition that he renounce his faith in Christ. Furthermore, the Iranian government has threatened to hold him until such a time as he renounces his faith, even if it exceeds the eight-year sentence.
During his time at Evin Prison in Tehran, Saeed has been subjected to one or more severe beatings and has evidently been denied proper medical attention to treat his wounds, which include internal bleeding.
Iran's actions are a violation of Saeed's essential human rights, various international human rights treaties, and Iran's own constitution.
