Europe is facing a refugee influx unseen since the 1940s. And though European law requires the recognition of such asylum seekers, this is only true if the refugees can make it into a European Union nation. Thus, many refugees seek to make the dangerous trek into Europe by either braving the Mediterranean Sea or making the arduous journey across Turkey and Greece, in spite of local governments and populations antagonizing them.
Even though this is a problem directly impacting Europe, We The People call upon our administration to offer more aid and to work closer with the European Union to assuage the humanitarian disaster. Ships should be sent to help rescue those who are abandoned in the Mediterranean Sea. America should be at the forefront of working to exemplify basic human decency.
