Access to safe and affordable housing should be a human right. The Public Housing Authority has a three page list of offenses (which includes drunkenness and disorderly conduct) that result in a person being denied access to vouchers for a period of 3-10 years. This will disproportionately affect communities that have been historically discriminated against by police and the Criminal Justice system. This disqualifies many people, especially those that are the most vulnerable, from gaining access to housing. Please support minimizing the barriers individuals and families face in accessing public housing vouchers, which often results in homelessness or housing insecurity.
