Do not deny US citizens federal grants for college

Created by M.V. on April 10, 2013

Under DC-LEAP, a federal grant program for college students in Washington DC, United States Citizens can be denied a grant to help pay for college. If you are dependent on your parents and your parents are not legal residents, United States Citizens, or in the country under asylum you can lose a grant despite being a citizen. In my case (and in the case of many other's I'm sure) my parents are here legally under a program called Temporary Protective Status (TPS) and they pay taxes and met all grant requirements.Despite the fact that they are here completely legally and I am a United States citizen I am denied the grant. I ask everyone to please sign this petition to make sure that citizens are not denied this grant program or for the government to expand the requirements to include TPS.
