In 2014, President Obama agreed to begin a push for removing the internet from exclusive U.S. control . On October first we will privatize the "Internet Corporation for the Assigned Names and Numbers" (ICANN). This corporation controls what is know as the Domain Naming System (DNS). This is the system that controls website with domains such as .com or .org will be given to an unknown foreign entity. This is bad because the groups that make up the entity which will control it, are unknown. No matter how fair you think this U.S. is, we have been very impartial with internet control and are even hesitant taking down sites the violate our own laws. Giving the ability for foreign entities to take down sites will only harm internet free speech in the long term. We cannot let this happen.
