Many of the people who have not voted for the Obama administration during this past election have either created or signed a petition asking for the secession of their state from the United States. As of this moment, all except for Vermont have filed one. This will not help anyone, and will in fact hinder everyone. If you choose not to allow it, though, many think that you should strip people of their rights as citizens, which is not, at least in my eyes, the case. In fact, it is quite stupid and unconstitutional.
