Despite attempts last year to allow those with undergrad or graduate school student loan debt to consolidate and/or receive a marginally lower interest rate, President Obama hasn't done enough. Our politicians talk endlessly about the national debt, spending, and the prospects of default, yet they take little to no action to help the growing number of adults with terrible student loans, especially those who went to grad school.
In an economy where an individual could rack up nearly $100K just for a master's degree, only to be "lucky" to get an entry-level job making $35K/year, we face serious problems for long-term economic growth if an entire generation of driven, educated people are encumbered by crushing loan debt.
Permanently drop rates. Establish real debt forgiveness. Do SOMETHING.
