Simple and to the point. Prescription-only medications should not be advertised to the public. Only medical professionals are qualified to make recommendations or decisions on whether or not a prescription medication is called for. Advertisements aimed at the public for prescription medications are unethical and unnecessary.
Typically advertised drugs are new to market, so cost hundreds of dollars, and if the patient is insured, they may not even realize that by obtaining and filling a prescription for the advertised drug, the insurance will end up paying those outrageous prices, and this will drive up prices for everyone - and if the patient actually needs the drug, the Dr. will prescribe it without the patient having to request it.
