Not appealing Flores consent decree enforcement decision by Judge Dolly Gee on behalf of immigrant mothers and children

Created by R.P. on July 27, 2015

We respectfully ask that the Administration and the Justice Department not appeal the July 24 federal court decision in the Central District of California that the detention of children and their mothers apprehended crossing the border illegally is a serious violation of the longstanding Flores court settlement, and to release the families in custody as quickly as possible.
Your decision not to appeal would reflect concern for principles of international human rights and federal law, especially the right to flee violence and deprivation. Children and their mothers should not be detained or punished for having had to flee the drug violence racking their communities. Doing otherwise makes them victims twice over.
Please do not appeal Judge Gee’s decision, and immediately implement her order.
