Energy Transfer Partners, the company constructing the Dakota Access Pipeline, has a track record of bad faith, starting with the attempt to evade an environmental impact evaluation of the pipeline as a whole and continuing with premeditated assaults by private security on demonstrators and the refusal to pause construction a few weeks ago after apparently promising the Corps of Engineers that they would. This track record is cause to doubt that they are actually waiting for the easement to be granted rather than proceeding to drill while the world is distracted by the recent violence against demonstrators nearby. We call upon the President and the Department of Justice to send Federal Marshals to monitor the drill sites at Lake Oahe to prevent any attempt to drill without permission.
