Instead of banning guns consider this:
The person behind each crime that involves a death from a gun is unstable or crazy in one way or another. Why not employ a tougher background check that could attach with your hunters safety card or your concealed weapons permit. It could be like another drivers license with a scan bar on the back. You would have to keep it up to date like your drivers license, let's say every two years you would have to renew it and get checked again. If you do not have the card you could not buy a gun. It would make it easy for the government to track who has what guns and keep an eye on the spending or mass buying that may go on. this in turn may tip off police or FBI before a newtown situation occurs.
