Seismic airgun testing is the first step in drilling oil from the ocean floor. This leaves many marine organisms and ecosystems at risk. Many cetaceans, including other marine wildlife call the Atlantic home and with these seismic airguns, their migration, feeding, or other behaviors would be affected. Cetaceans use low frequency sounds to communicate and live their daily life, and are sensitive to the noises these airguns will produce. This will especially have an affect on the wildlife of the coast of Florida, which has one of the most diverse ranges of endangered sea turtles in the country. Offshore drilling will also have a negative affect on the tourist-based economy the state of Florida thrives on. The energy gains won't let us pay less at the pump, so is it worth the cost?
